1Utama is Home to Malaysia’s 2nd FlowRider

The newest Stand Alone FlowRider® venue is in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia in the 7th largest mall in the world.  This mall’s total square footage is 5,000,000 – FIVE MILLION SQUARE FEET!  We like shopping (to a point), but we like flowboarding way more, so we think these developers made a great decision by adding the most popular surf simulator attraction in the world.  Bias? Yes. Right? Yes.

The venue itself is called FlowRider 1Utama.  It’s been open for about 2 weeks and has been running nonstop.  Mall goers, locals and tourists alike, seem to be catching on fast!  Their official grand opening was this past weekend.  The DJ kept people in a fun mood and kept them movin’, there was a heavily-tatooed flame thrower, professional flowboarders & bodyboarders and beachy cocktails to round it all out.

The FlowRider Double is situated in a way that spectators can watch from the front, each side and also from each side on the balconies.  Maximizing the sight lines is key and 1Utama nailed it!  The team also included a space totally dedicated to retail.  It’s mostly Quiksilver apparel and some great FlowRider-made flowboards and bodyboards (I spy the DT Pro Model!).

Since the first phone call was made to our HQ in San Diego, the FlowRider team has been working closely with their team.  Morphing together all the key elements to a successful Stand Alone business, while making sure that that particular market and locale is still served properly is our focus.  1Utama kept us up to speed on their vision and we offered our industry expertise and voilà – the successful GRAND OPENING has come and gone already!

It is with open arms and sweet visions of yet another endless wave making people happy and healthy halfway across the world that we welcome 1Utama to the Flow Family!  And we are feelin’ the love right back at us – They are already signed up to host a FLOW Tour Asia event this year!

Check out some of these grand opening photos and add this new Malaysian venue to your list of “must-sees”!
