First FlowRider event in Carmel Clay Parks Indiana goes off

Carmel Clay Parks & Recreation FlowRider – Carmel, Indiana- August 2, 2014

Flowboarding is one of the fastest growing board sports today and board enthusiasts in Indiana now have the opportunity to jump on a board and go with the flow. The ride has only been open for three seasons and just recently Indiana hosted their inaugural flowboarding contest.

“The FlowRider surfing attraction’s popularity is dramatically increasing and we have started to create a solid rider base; it’s exciting to see everyone improving their riding skills” said Eric Mehl, MCC Assistant Director. There was a lot of anticipation built up around the venues first contest and various media outlets, including the local news programming, got involved and showed generous support. WISH TV 8 featured a live segment about flowboarding and promoted the contest the day prior and also sent out a representative to cover the event (See links below).

The FlowRider® is the hottest new attraction at Carmel Clay Parks & Recreation Waterpark and is the only surf machine in the state.  “With many competitors only riding for a short period of time before entering their first competition, it was a great to see the excitement built up around the community” mentioned FLOW events coordinator, Adam Muller.  The waterpark guest, friends and family all gathered around to lay eyes on the action packed event, as it was a crowd pleaser for all.

In addition to the local entries, the event attracted traveling participants from Ohio and also featured 7x National and World Champion, Nick Nguyen.  “I was stoked to be invited out to Indiana, it’s always a good time making more friends, riding new waves, and experiencing great venues” mention Nguyen. “There is also a skate park right next to the wave!” he added.

In addition to the FlowRider Double, the waterpark features slides, a lazy river and a rock-climbing wall to go along with its other amenities for all to enjoy. Outside of the waterpark, the facility also allows access to a skate park, indoor gym and summer camps and classes.

The event had a great turnout and a positive vibe throughout the day giving the park guests, riders, and spectators the feel of the flowboarding lifestyle, leaving everyone hooked. “The event was a great success for us and we look forward to hosting more contests on the FlowRider, and have high hopes of joining the FLOW Tour for years to come!” Eric explained.

If you are in the area or are taking a trip to Indiana in the near future, we recommend you visit Carmel and stop by the waterpark as it has a lot to offer to go along with a friendly staff.
