The world’s most popular surf simulator machine acts as a central hub of entertainment in many places – waterparks, hotels, stand alone venues and city-owned aquatic centers – globally. The differentiation factor that a FlowRider® brings to a hotel or resort property, however, is undeniable.
“FlowRider has created a point of differentiation between our property versus the competition. The leisure traveler and families are rewarding us for our differentiation as are our group customers though at a much more modest level,” says Bruce Lange, Managing Director at Westin Kierland in Scottsdale. The Westin is a beautiful Arizona property that for years has provided it’s guests luxurious dining and golfing options, along with relaxing spa and lounging options. In 2012, the FlowRider addition opened an entirely different door for this Westin property, as Lange mentions.
There are four key areas in which the FlowRider attraction contributes to hotel and resorts properties:
- Destination Draw for Teens and Families – Learning the ride the FlowRider, or the act of flowboarding, is a skill-based activity. The more people go down a water slide, the less exciting it gets. The more people try flowboarding, the more exciting it gets. This in turn draws your guests to the attraction time and time again.
- Ancillary Revenue Streams – Increased profitability is achieved by branding FlowRider-centric retail gear (i.e. flowboards, rash guards), offering clinics and/or private lessons/sessions on the FlowRider, hosting FlowRider events or competitions and last, but not least, situating a comfortable, family-friendly Food & Beverage option near the FlowRider.
- Increased Time on Property & Repeat Visitation – Clearly offering everything your guests could dream of right on your property is the goal. The FlowRider offers a true experience for guests; something that elicits excitement and the desire to stay and partake in above-mentioned, revenue generating offerings. Also with a concrete shift towards travelers craving what has been coined as “experiential travel” the FlowRider is an easy on-property answer to that quest.
- Small Space, Big Impact – Not many hotel amenities can appeal to so many people and create such a cool entertainment space as the FlowRider can in such a small space (FlowRider Double is just under 2,000 square feet).
