A Legend is Born and the Wave Comes With It

Royal Caribbean and FlowRider go back. Way back. Twenty-two ships, 26 FlowRider units across the fleet, and a partnership that’s become so woven into the Royal Caribbean experience that guests plan their sea days around it. So when a new ship joins the fleet, there’s really only one question worth asking: is the wave on board?

On Legend of the Seas, the answer is yes.

Legend just took delivery on June 10, 2026 at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland, with more than 1,200 crew members and partners on hand for the ceremony. She sets sail on her maiden voyage July 4, a seven-night Western Mediterranean cruise calling at Marseille, Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca, and La Spezia, before crossing the Atlantic to her Caribbean home out of Fort Lauderdale in November. And tucked into Thrill Island alongside Category 6 and Crown’s Edge is a FlowRider Double that’s been part of the plan from day one.

But let’s back up, because this ship deserves its own introduction.

The Ship That Needs No Introduction (And Gets One Anyway)

Legend of the Seas is the third Icon-class ship in Royal Caribbean’s fleet, following Icon of the Seas and Star of the Seas. Same massive scale (1,196 feet, roughly 250,000 gross tons, guest capacity around 5,610 at double occupancy). Same eight-neighborhood layout that somehow makes a ship this size feel navigable. And yet Legend carves out its own lane.

She’s the first Icon-class ship to debut in Europe, which is already a statement. Once she crosses the Atlantic and arrives in Fort Lauderdale, she brings Western and Southern Caribbean itineraries no Icon-class ship has run before, with stops in Aruba, Curacao, and Falmouth, Jamaica.

Yes, All of That Is on One Ship

The Category 6 waterpark brings record-breaking slides. Crown’s Edge puts you 17 stories above the open ocean on a skywalk that earns every bit of its reputation. Seven pools, more than 40 dining and bar options, and 28 ways to eat, more than any ship before her. The Royal Railway is already generating buzz as an immersive dining experience. Entertainment is headlined by a full Broadway-to-ship adaptation of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and America’s Got Talent Live brings something new to the format. Royal Caribbean set out to make the ship the destination. On Legend, they’ve done it again.

About that Wave

The FlowRider on Legend works the same way loyal Royal Caribbean guests already know: included in the cruise fare, supervised by trained instructors, and ready to humble even the most confident riders (in the best way). First time on a bodyboard? Perfect place to start. Been riding for years and want to work on your stand-up? The wave is patient. It’s one of those attractions that draws a crowd every time it runs, whether you’re the one riding or the one watching from the sidelines with your phone out.

That’s the thing about a well-placed FlowRider. On a ship full of adrenaline options, it holds its own. It’s not trying to out-thrill the waterslides or the skywalk. It’s offering something different: a skill-based, replayable experience guests come back to again and again throughout a sailing.

The Partnership That Keeps Going

With Hero of the Seas on the way in 2027, the fleet keeps growing and so does the footprint of the wave. FlowRider has become part of what guests expect from a Royal Caribbean sailing, sitting in the same mental category as the rock-climbing wall and the ice rink. A signature experience that sets the brand apart. On Legend of the Seas, it takes its place among a lineup of attractions that will define what summer 2026 cruising looks like in the Mediterranean and beyond.

The legend is back. The wave is ready. All aboard.
