There is not really one that is better, it comes down to riding style and what you are looking for. The longer boards tend to hold better on turns and have a larger landing area when trying tricks where you leave your board. The shorter boards tend to feel more responsive and quicker under your feet. The have less rail which allows them to turn more quickly and be a little less sensitive to catching while doing spins.
